Rötter; Jansjö, nov 2000. Bertil Johnson, Familj C 2 Go to the descendant chart Sven Spjällesson was farmer on Jansjö 1 and he is mentioned 1535-1561. Gustav Vasa decided in 1542 to organize the first register of land of the parish of Fjällsjö. In the village Jansjö there were only two farmers namely Sven Spjällesson and Gulle Svensson. The two farmers were estimated to have together 14 sel. (1 sel = about 3500 square metres.) The need of land for a normal farm should be about 1 mantal, which is equal with 24 sel. The farms in Jansjö were then lower than the estimated subsistence level. Sven Spjällesson was fined because he had been housing a witch from Ådalen. This information probably comes from a book written by Sven Einar Hallström: "Bodum vår socken" (1968). In this is treated a women, who is called "The wise" and who lived with "Seger in Frånö". "The wise" was said to be able to find were things were hided in the ground. One also said that she spread much haunting and disputes. The sheriff Kjell Nilsson accounted on the 20th of June 1551 for the activity of the women and the clergymen warned the country people. The sheriff ordered to trace and register all who hade applied to the woman. The accused were fined. Sven Spjällesson is noted in the register of accused. Children:

Viktor Behm; The history of Jämtland och Härjedalen until 1814, page 61- Go to the descendant chart In the 1544 register of lands for Jemteland is mentioned "Klaffus I Rilaase", who paid as taxes 4 skin, was fined 6 grey skins, paid in rent of land 9 grey skins and for right of fishing 1 skin. From the accounts kept during the Swedish occupation of Jamtaland 1564-71 it is clear that this farm was used by Klas (Claws/Klaffus) to 1570 and by his son Olof Classon after 1571. Already 150 years before Klas in Risselås lived, another Claws in Ström is mentioned. There are, however, no sources showing that these two Claws are relations. But as the letter from 1410 is of general interest for Jämtland the content is shown below. Claws from Ström is, together with 115 other persons from Jämtland, noted in a letter written in Mordviken in the parish of Bräcke 4th of April 1410. The original on parchment with all seals attached is stored at the National Archives. The letter has the following background: Queen Margareta wrote on the 28th of October 1389 a letter in which she informs all her sheriffs and representatives and also all farmers and others housing in Jämtland that she had taken the archbishop in Uppsala and his subordinates and everything belonging to them in Jämtland under her royal protection. She therefore ordered them all to fulfil their duties. Already the first years of the 1500s century Jämtland was given as a pledge to the archbishop Hindrik Carlsson (1383-1408) in Uppsala because he had lent Queen Margareta 2000 Swedish crowns. One half of the receipts should be sent to the cathedral in Trondheim and to the archbishop there until 1000 marks had been paid. The other half should get to the archbishop Carlsson until he had received the money back. But there should be a deduction on the debt to Carlsson with the sum that the farmers in Jämtland had to pay for the destroyed fort in Tibrandsholm. Afterwards the receipts should sent to the cathedral and the archbishop in Uppsala and his successors. On the 4th of April 1410 in Mordviken the inhabitants of Jämtland promised to pay 600 marks to the cathedral in Uppsala on the 11th of December 1410 on the State demesne Förberg on Frösön. Child:

According to the register of tithes from 1566 one of these farms was used by Björn. Also in the years 1568-71 Björn is one of the farmers. Erik Björnsson is probably a son to Björn. Child:

He was lay assessor 1570. In the 1540 register of lands there is a farmer in Bye, Per in Byn, who paid 1 skin and 2 skillings as taxes. He also paid 2 skillings for the rent of land. Peder in Bye paid as tithes for the years 1566 and 1568 3,5 spann (1 spann = 73,5 litres). (The history of Hammerdal and Gåxsjö). The owner's mark of Per in Bye, as being one of twelve lay assessors in the 1571 register of the population in Hammerdal , is reproduced in the 1981 chronicle of Hammerdal . That the farm in Bye, Hammerdal is old is probably clear from the fact that Af Halvardsson on the 18th of March 1436 notifies that he has sold the farm Bye in Hammerdal to Jeppe Laureson for 10 Swedish marks. The contract of sale includes arable and pasture land, water with right of fishing and hunting-grounds near the village. All has belonged to the farm since very long time.
