Erik Persson was farmer on number 1 in Stamsele in 1655 and after 1673. He is mentioned in the register of tithes in 1648(?) and in 1655-70.

Erik and his brother Sven were in 1658 prosecuted for poaching at the district court sessions in Hammerdal. Sewald Karlsson in Risselås had shown them a couple of elks in his forest. The brothers, however, hesitated to shoot them because of "the severe prohibition of the authorities". But Sewald said that he should take the responsibility. He trusted that the authorities should show mercy because of the famine he had got into. Sewald took then both the meat and the hides and the brothers got nothing - except the fine!

Erik married Kerstin Andersdotter, X:90.

They had the following children:
300 i. Per, IX:45 (-1733)
ii. Olof (-1715)
iii. Abraham?

601 Kerstin Andersdotter, X:90.  Born in Stamsele, Ström. Residence: Stamsele, Ström.

Her first name is, according to Georg Hansson, probably Kerstin as the two sons Per and Olov both have daughters with this name. She is indirectly mentioned in the Judgement book of Ramsele 1671.

The Judgement book is missing for the year of war 1657. Therefore we do not know exactly how the conveyance of the farm Strand number 2 was done. Probably Anders Jönsson is the son of Jöns Mickelsson. From the Judgement book of 1666 it is clear that Anders has taken care of his old parents on the farm and furthermore that he has suffered much during the years of war. Therefore he ought to have the farm instead of the brother Jon, who earlier was in Norway. And Anders Jönsson took over the farm already in 1664. He used it until 1699 when his son Jon took it over.

In the year 1679 Anders also bought the farm Strand number 1 and he let the son Per take over this farm. Anders Jönsson was also the owner of one farm in Bredgård, which he bought in 1664 for 120 rdr. After some years he gave this farm to his brother Mickel.

From the register of the tithes for the later part of the seventieth century one can conclude that the farm used by Anders Jönsson often gave the greatest harvests in the parish of Ström. Anders Jönsson was probably an affluent person.

Anders married Brita Hansdotter, X:94.

They had the following children:
i. Jöns (-1716)
302 ii. Pär, IX:47 (1655-1747)
iii. Göle (1659-1744)
iv. Anna

Jöran Andersson bought Öhn number 3 in the year 1665 from Nils Andersson in Bredgård. He was the owner of the farm the years 1665-87. Jöran also is noted in the register of tithes as the owner of Öhn number 4 the years 1659, 1661 and 1663. Probably he shared the use of this farm with his brother Mårten (ID:520).

Jöran Andersson and Sigfrid Jonsson had in 1678 a quarrel with the Finns in Ringvattnet, who were of the opinion that they paid to high charges to Jöran and Sigfrid. They paid two elk skins, one wolverine skin and two martens probably to be allowed to use their outlying lands.

Jöran Andersson intended in 1685 to sell his farm to a prospective son-in-law Abraham Ersson from Stamsele. But it was instead the son-in-law Daniel Jönsson (ID :314) from Tullingsås who baught the farm on the 5th of February 1687. Four of the children and Pål Thunman (the husband of the youngest daughter) signed the contract of sale. There is a copy of this contract in the archives of the local folklore society of Ström.

In the year 1700 the harvest on this farm gave 142 shocks of barley and 2 1/2 shocks of peas. At a test-threshing one got 6 kappar(1 kappe = 4,58 litres) barley and 3 kappar peas per shock.

Jöran married Benedikta Olofsdotter, X:120.

They had the following children:
315 i. Ingeborg, IX:60 (1656-1748)
ii. Olof

Gothe writes among other things the following:
"Two Finns have in 1670 written to the superintendents of the Royal commission of Västernorrland and asked for permission to cultivate crofter's holdings at Opwatnet on the, according to the Finns, 20 mil (1 mil = about 6 miles) great common land in Jämtland at the border between the parish of Ström and Norway." Those who wrote the letter were the two brothers Jöran and Matts Mattsson, who probably came to the parish of Ström from Flåsjön (Ringvattnet), where they earlier had lived at the settler there Erik Jonsson.

One could expect that such new crofter's holdings at Opwatnet, which is situated between the present villages Renån and Kärrnäset, should be met with opposition from the country people.
According to decisions in 1649 and 1666 farmers at Öhn rented the area around Renån. Five farmers from Öhn paid in 1666 a rent of 5 riksdaler for this area.

The country governor Carl Sparre was very friendly towards the Finns. He decided that Göran Mattsson should be allowed to cultivate a crofter's holding at Opwatnet. The farmers at Öhn raised objections several times to this decision. They pointed out that this place was situated only 1 1/2 mil (1 mil = about 6 miles) from their village. The new farm should therefore cause them great damages.
At an extraordinary district court sessions in 1674 they required that the sowing of the Finn on the burn-beaten land near Renålandet should be destroyed.

One can understand that farmers in a village, which is so big as Öhn, need quite big outlying lands. When the Finns earlier have met with strong opposition they solved the problem in another way (see e.g. ID 1060), which also Matts Jöransson used. He bought from Lars Broddeson a farm in Äspnäs. The owner of this farm had the right to use also the outlying land near Renån.

Jöran married Elin Göransdotter, X:122.

They had the following children:
i. Jakob (1645-)
316 ii. Mats, IX:61 (1650-1717)
iii. Påhl (1662-1712)

Elin is mentioned in Äspnäs the year 1683 in the registration of cattle owned by the domestic servants. She is probably widow as she has her own animals. Maybe she is the mother of Mats Jöransson.

After the death of Arvid Jönsson there was a dispute about the inheritance between Jöns Arvidsson and Mats Göransson (ID:316), whose wife Göle Arvidsdotter (ID:317) was daughter to Arvid Jönsson. According to Mats the inheritance included 21 daler silver coins, one cow and six sheep, one hand-mill, one pot, some other vessels and a little barley. Jöns said that it was only 18 daler. He also informed the Court: " The father has been at Mats farm as long as he was able to work. Then he was cast off. He had then to live at the son, where he for a long time was ill and needed much nursing. He has in the presence of trustees bequeathed all his small property to Jöns."
In the report of the proceedings is written: "The partners were reconciled. Jöns Arvidsson promised to pay 3 daler to Matts Jöransson, who declared to be satisfied with that. Then they shook hands."

Mårten Nilsson moved in 1650 from Ledusjö to Nyåker, which had been deserted since 20 years. Some haymaking had occurred of for instance the Finn Eskil Hindersson from Orrböle. We do not know whether some of Mårtens ancestors lived in Nyåker.

Mårten Nilsson cultivated until the year 1694 12 seland (1 seland = about 3500 square metres). Then he sold half of the farm to his son Anders Mårtensson. The other sons had to try finding farms in other villages. But one daughter, whose name probably was Brita (ID 693), married the Finn Matts Mattsson (ID 692) in Agnäs. After the death of Matts and when Brita had remarried Mårten Nilsson took as foster-son Britas son Per Mattsson (ID 346). When Mårten Nilsson in the year 1695 distributed the estate to the children he decided that Per Mattsson should get the second half of the farm as compensation for that he took care of the old people.

The wife of Mårten died before 1699. In spite of the fact that both Anders and Per Mattsson lived in Nyåker Mårten now moved to the daughter Karin and the son-in-law Johan Ersson in Sunnansjö. He died there in 1706.

Mårten married Cecilia Hermansdotter, X:162.

They had the following children:
693 i. Brita, X:182
ii. Karin
336 iii. Nils, IX:81 (1648-1735)

In the sixteenth century the farm Brattsbacka paid taxes for 46 seland (1seland = about 3500 square metres). During the seventies century the farmer Olof Svensson used only 12 1/2 seland. He then divided the farm between the two sons Sven and Jon. Sven, however, moved to Mullsjö to take over the deserted farm owned by Olof Ers and Jon sold his farm to Matts Hindersson.

Olof Svensson was first married to NN Hermansdotter, who died in about 1655. They had the two daughters
o Rakel, born 1639, dead 1733
o Anna (X:188, ID 699), born 1654, dead 1744

Olof Svensssson then married to Rågärd Jonsdotter, who was daughter to Jon Olofsson in Öre. They had the son
o Jon (IX:89, ID 344) born 14th of May 1658, dead 30th of March 1731.

Olof Svensson had dealings with the Finns. His wife Rågärd read for the cattle in a way, which was usual among the Finns. But the family of Olof Svensson, living in Brattsbacka, was an old Swedish family. One can namely there follow a sequence of names Olof Svensson – Sven Olofsson ever since Olof Ersson, who was lay assessor in the year 1500.

Olof married Rågärd Jonsdotter, X:178.

They had one child:
344 i. Jon, IX:89 (1658-1731)

Something unfortunate could happen to persons who spread rumours. Mårten Nilsson in Nyåker (ID 672) and Johan Eskilsson in Orrböle experienced this in the year 1665, when Rågärd Jonsdotter, the wife of Olof Svens in Brattbacka, was reported by them as devoting herself to witchcraft. "There are several who entertained suspicions about Rågärd, since she moved to the village. They declared that Rågärd has got greater profit of the cattle compared with what the others got." Mårten and Johan accused she of "lövjeri" (a witchcraft which increases the earthly welfare). But when the accusation was treated in the district court sessions they cold not demonstrate any criminality. The clergymen recommended Rågärd thoroughly. She was declared to be not guilty and those who had spread the rumours were fined 40 mark. The fine was divided in three parts; one for each of the King, the county sheriff and the church (Judgement book 1669 13/2 Nordmaling).
