Oral information from Anders Ronne on the 31st of December in 1967. "o Junior school 1898-1900, 2 years in the house of the Good Templar. o Schoolmaster Öbom 1900-1903, 3 years (in the parish hall, in the house of baker Lundkvist in the church house of Lars-Erik and in some other places) o Elementary school 1903-04, 1 year, the sixth class (Mrs Nordfors as teacher. She was stepmother to Daniel Nordfors). o Next spring; private lessons for schoolmaster Öbom in Latin. o Autumn term 1906; examination to the second year at the Fjellstedska skolan (training institute for those who intend to be clergymen) in Uppsala. o 1906-1907. One year at the Fjellstedska skolan. The travel to Uppsala: - High-speed travel to Östersund. Vehicle driven in a carriage and pair. The horses had to be changed twice. The travel was going on between 08.00 and 22.00. The distance was 60 miles. - Railway from Östersund to Uppsala. A porter showed where the school was situated. I lived together with two other students in one room. I got good certificates from the second year. However, I did not want to continue although my parents wanted this. I wanted to start at the upper secondary school in Östersund and then continue the training to be forest officer. o 1907-09, 2 years. I was "pinnboy" (a simple work) at the building of the new railway, which passed Ström. I should then get a better employment in Lövberga, but I did not want to move to Lövberga and finished then to work with the new railway. I visited Östersund in 1905 together with my parents, uncle Zackris and the sister Britta to see the big exhibition. It was not enough with seats for all of us. But I had got a bicycle when I was confirmed; bought on an auction. I packed a small baggage and wanted to follow. I then was allowed to cycle behind the horse-drawn vehicle. I saw "Crime and crime" written by August Strindberg at the exhibition and I the fell asleep. Erik and Karin visited the confectioner Jonsson in Sundsvall. In the meantime I stayed in Östersund. On the journey home my bicycle was broken at Lit. I was offered to go by Erik Olsson (brother to "Bank-Olle") to Tullingsås and then with my father to Strömsund. Erik and Karin had together with Eriks brother Zakris and his wife Ingrid already in 1898 been in Stockholm." Obituary notice about Anders Ronne: "The earlier elementary school teacher Anders Ronne, has died. He was 81 years old. Mr. Ronne was born and he had grown up at Näset, Strömsund. Mr. Ronne was as teacher a very clever pedagogue and both pupils and colleagues warmly appreciated him for his tactful way and his kindness. The deceased leaves as the chief mourners the wife Jenny and children with families." And later "The burial-service of Mr Anders Ronne took place on Saturday in the church of Ström. Members of the Order of Knights Templar paraded at the bier with staff-bearer and the act was framed by choir-singing of the grandchildren of the deceased. o That ever since she was a little girl she wanted to be a midwife. She was the oldest one among 9 brothers and sisters. o That she in 1917 served as a maid in Långsele. o That she then went through a course in medical treatment at the hospital in Sollefteå. At the same time she followed courses in Swedish and mathematics. o That she 1920/21 was trained to be a midwife in Stockholm. o That she directly after the training got an employment in Strömsund. o That she during her duty there, until she got retired, got done about 2000 childbirth. o That she felt happy with her choice of a profession and she used to say that she should be a midwife again if she had to live her life once more. Jenny writes in her document much about the experiences that she has got as a midwife. Axel, the brother of Jenny, has in his document "Mitt livs novell (1995)" thoroughly described the situation in the home of their childhood. In the obituary notice after Jenny is written: "The earlier midwife Jenny Ronne, Strömsund, has after a longer time of illness died. She was then 89 years old. Jenny Ronne was a well-known and popular person in Strömsund. She had during 32 years worked as a midwife within the large parish and she retired from her duty in 1953 after having helped more than 2000 children to be born. She met with many adventurous journeys in the waste. The roads were that time very bad why she often had to come walking or skiing when it was not possible to use a horse-drawn vehicle. She had a good experience of life and got herself mother to four children after her marriage in 1927 with the late elementary school teacher Anders Ronne. Jenny was born in a godfearing home in Helgum. She had many brothers and sisters. As Jenny was the oldest one she stayed at home to help her parents with the work at the farm. She knew already as young that she wanted to get a midwife. After a preparatory course at the hospital in Sollefteå she followed one year long training as midwife in Stockholm. After the examination she returned to her parents' home and started in 1921 a three days journey with her father on a horse-drawn vehicle to her first employment as midwife in Strömsund, where she then stayed and did her life work. She took part in the parish work and also in the work at the municipality and a number of associations. She was some years member of the municipal council and for many years member of the child welfare committee. She was for a long time active in the women's association of the church in Ström. She was an active member of the housewives' league in Ström and for some years also the chairman of this association. With her calm manner and her kindness Jenny got many friends and she always carried out her tasks and commissions with great dutifulness. Axel writes the following about his father "Father was the oldest son in a family of 6 brothers and sisters. It was normal that the oldest son should take over the farm. Grandfather thought that this should happen also now. Jonas Erik, however, wanted to study to be a clergyman. Of some mysterious reason his father changed opinion and one day he started to walk against the parish registrar's office to get the papers needed. But on the way he changed opinion again and returned home without the papers. Jonas Erik responded very hard on this. Probably this was the reason why he left Edsele and moved to Helgum, which happened on the 28th of October in 1893. He married his cousin Brita Margareta Jonsdotter from Meåfors in Ramsele. This happened in the church of Ramsele on the 23rd of March in 1894. One year earlier he had bought a farm in Näs, Helgum, of one sel (= about 3500 square metres) from Magnus Norlander, who earlier had bought the farm on an auction of an estate of a deceased person. Magnus now stayed from 1893 in 20 years as a "Födorådstagare", which means that he during the remaining part of his life should get from the new owners of the farm what he needed as firewood, corn, milk and so on. The family got economical problems when Jonas Erik had to pay for a great personal guarantee. There were two other fellow-creditors that, however, left this commitment at an early time. Jonas Erik therefore had to pay the whole debt himself. The debt was on 10 000 kr (according to Axel this is about 600 000 kr (= about 60 000 USD) in the value of money in 1995). This happened in the beginning of the1920 decade. Jonas Erik had to sell the greater part of the forest, which belonged to the farm, to be able to pay the debt." In the short story by Axel are reported interesting and detailed accounts of the consequences for his home of the anxiety, which characterised the years 1900-1920 as o consequence of the First World War, massive unemployment and antagonisms on the places of work. Further Axel describes o Medical service. The Spanish flue affected the district very hard with many deaths. He also reports on how one used "wise old women" and different forms of drugs during this time. o Insufficient social welfare o Entertainment o Religious activities and many other things of interest. On 26 Mar 1894 when Jonas Erik was 23, he married Brita Margareta Jonsdotter, III:4. They had the following children:

Axel writes the following about his mother "My mother came from a farmer family in Meåfors, Ramsele. She was the oldest one among 14 brothers and sisters. She therefore had to learn to take care of a home during the years of famine in the 1870-decade, when failure of crops and bad time were quite regular things. The schooling of my mother was restricted to a little training at home under the guidance of a self-taught shoemaker. She learnt the old types of letters. She read aloud following the lines with her forefinger. She had not learnt to solve arithmetical problems with paper and a pencil. All problems were solved by mental arithmetic calculation. Every day I waked up by hearing mother sitting on the "iron sheet" (kitchen sink) and reading the daily chapter in her "Biblical treasury ". According to a notice on the inner side of the cover she got this book from father as a birthday present on the 30th of October in 1898. This reading was repeated every day. From this she drew the strength she needed to be able to get done the daily obligations of a farmer wife. Both my parents - and above all my mother - were religious. But this side of my parents was never presented in a fanatical way. My mother had always much to do with so many children. She had one maid who could help her. All we needed of linen and wool was that time manufactured at home. In summertime they grew flax on great areas. But before they could produce sheets, cloths and towels much work was needed. Mother took part in competitions arranged by the agricultural society. She was awarded a prize for her quilt yarn." Her husband Olof Andersson was a wealthy farmer. o 2. Karin Lundqvist married the master tailor Per Lundqvist from Trångåsen. The brothers of Karin gave them a building site and helped them to build the house where we lived (and which house Hans and Margareta Sverredal later moved to Södra Öhn). They had no children. But Karin had a daughter before she got married. That was Kristina Ollander, who was brought up at Erik and Karin Mårtensson. Kristina Ollander later on lived in a small red house southwest of the junior school. Per Lundqvist bought a knitting-machine. He knitted stockings and sweaters. They therefore moved to Östersund and Zakris was employed to transport prisoners. Later they moved to Hallviken, Ström where they had a coffee. Then they moved to Järilvattnet and took over the farm of Ingrid's father. Later on they moved to Lövberga and to Strömsund where they lived at the second floor of the house of the Salvation Army.
