(Father 2802) The widow Karin Mattsdotter, who also spoke Finnish, was remarried after the death of Matts Olofsson with a man called Pål Persson. He was probably a farm-hand in Mjösjö as he is not noted in any register. But we know from the Judgement Book for the Lapland of Lycksele that "Pål Pålsson from Mjösjö" has bought a farm in Örträsk for 38 dalers. This happened already on the 5th of January 1702. When Pål Persson was married with the widow Karin they moved up to Lapland to a place that he in 1704 gave the name Vägsele. It is situated at Öreälven between the church of Lycksele and Lillögda. The stepdaughter Maria from Mjösjö followed to Vägsele. In 1708 she married the settler Mårten Mårtensson born 1682 in Vägsele. Later they moved to Örträsk, Kattisavan and Rusele. They had 12 children. Maria visited Stockholm in 1717 and 1726 to show stones from the mountain of Rödingeträsk. She thought they were of great value. The first time she got money to the ticket for the journey home. But the second time she was nearest turned out. |
