Gothe writes the following tradition:
"Erik Jonsson had a brother Matts Jonsson, who was evil to his wife. The popular legend says that he has burnt up his wife in Gammelbodarna at Näxås road." A notice from the court in 1669 concerns probably the same episode. The following is written: "The Finn Erik Jonsson, who lives in Krånge, complains about his brother Mats, that he does not agree with his wife but that he has quarrel and gets into disputes with her. Last summer he threatened to burn up the farm with his wife and the children, which also happened. The lay assessors in Ström have to part the brothers and drive away Mats." According to the tradition this should be valid for the first settling at Näxåsen-Hullkasåsen, which later on was leaved.

In the register of the parish catechetical meeting in 1673 are noted besides Erik Jonsson and his family also 3 other persons namely Mats Jonson, Jöran Mattson and another person. Mats Jonsson may be the troublesome brother of Erik and Jöran Mattsson could be the son of Mats. It seems to be Jöran Mattsson who in 1680 byes one of the two farms in Äspnäs.

Georg Hansson is however uncertain about the statement that Jöran Mattson is the son of Erik Jonssons brother Mats
